Flores de Mayo: Santacruzan

Held in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Flores de Mayo is a one month festival that ends with a Santacruzan. A religio-historical beauty pageant held in many cities, towns, and even in small communities throughout the Philippines during the month of May. One of the most colourful aspects of this festival, the pageant depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.

My daughter for the first time, experienced and saw what Santacruzan was all about here in our small community.

What a wonderful experience for Mabe and I, and that ends the month of May for us.

Flores de Mayo

I know, this is a late post, but Flores de Mayo has three more days to go. Mabe will join the other girls tomorrow since she never heard of this festival yet. I wanted her to experience Flores de Mayo like I did twenty five years ago.

Aside from the religious side of it, my memories of Flores de Mayo is all about the flowers I can find (like the ones I posted above), the plastic bowls and utensils that I have to bring for the afternoon snacks (Lol!), and of course playing with the rest of the kids, running around the church grounds. To those who experienced the same thing feet up :))

This festival is not complete without the Santacruzan, a pageant on the last day of Flores de Mayo in honor of Helena and Constantine finding the True Cross in Jerusalem (that is according to Wikipedia), nowadays Santacruzan seems to have a different approach. When I was in college taking up English Literature, I remember discussing the Helena and Constantine stuff in class (hmm, nevermind. haha!). What I only wanted you to know is, I was once invited to be Reyna Emperatriz (this was in the 90's, while studying in Baguio). Haha!

Okay, enough of my Flores de Mayo memories.

Goodnight everyone!

Withered

No matter how fresh and radiant things are, there will always be an end, but beauty within is eternal.

Dying but still trying to tell stories.

Withered but still beautiful to me.

I'm still here!!

Blogging seemed to be at the backseat of everything right now. I'm still here, living my day to day not-so-busy-stagemotherlife anymore. I am savoring two more weeks of me-time until our family vacation in June. We are heading to a cooler place for a couple of days.

I will try to update this site as much as I can, getting into the blogging track again. I will surely do.

Goodnight everyone!

Mom-zilla

The past few weeks I was like balletmom-zilla. Mabe's everyday rehearsal has been eating up most of my time. I had a 3-day break when my cousins Alex and Aileen from Australia were here in town for some important business that I had to accompany them, after that I was back as balletmom-zilla.

Finally, the summer ballet activity was over. The dance studio had a cast party at Mambukal today and it was a hit. What a great way to bond with the rest of the kids and fellow balletmoms and stageyayas. Mabe and I had so much fun.

The sight of the Hot Dipping Pool above was in fact inviting. Even if I got tempted to take a plunge, I was keeping an eye on Mabe the whole time so it's a no-no. Mom-zilla here.

One more schedule tomorrow (a costume party) then I'm done with kid activity.

Mom-zilla deserves a foot and back massage.

Good night everyone!

Mother's Day

Behind The Sweet Life

Sugarcanes, before it becomes sugar, before it gives some people The Sweet Life.

The sweet stalks of sugarcanes passing the hands of the underpaid migrant laborers called sacadas.

A lot of studies had been made about the plight these workers. Labor groups untiringly marching in the streets fighting for reforms. A lot of reform agendas proposed and denied, some implemented, some are not. A couple of movies had been made and documented the poverty and struggles...it somehow opened the eyes of many but some remained deaf and mute.

A sad reality behind the sweet life.

No need to drive Pizza Drive

Lol! Crazy title but let me tell you seriously, this pizza is a thumbs up.

If you reside in Mansilingan, Bacolod City area, there's no need to drive to have some, Pizza Drive delivers right in your door steps like other pizza houses do. Actually, I haven't been to the actual food place yet, I just got their number from my friend Dolores.

The regular Calzone I ordered: Php 150.00 (six slices), regular Supreme: Php 150.00 (eight slices). Minimum delivery amount is Php250.00.

Good night.

Chill

Everyday ballet class can really be tiring, leaving you almost without energy.

This is what we do after getting home, after a cold bath, Mabe and I in bed, in our pajamas, Mabe listening to Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift.

Chill.
