Do you like your name?

Here's what kept me in bed yesterday afternoon until early morning today. Flipping through pages and thinking of the question: Do I really like my name?

This is my second book written by an Indian author. I love how the Indian culture and family traditions narrated in all those books.

The book is about a boy named Gogol, named after the Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, born and raised in an Indian household in Massachusetts. Growing up he hated his name so much that he eventually changed to Nikhil, legally.
Gogol went to Yale as Nikhil, became an architect and worked in New York. The story is a descriptive narration of Indian family traditions, living in America and keeping that tradition taken from the point of view of Gogol's Indian mother Ashima and Gogol himself.

Beautifully written. You will be taken back in time from the year 1968 to 2000, and yes I cried.

Now I am back to the question: Do I really like my name?

When I was growing up like Gogol, I don't like my name too. Mine is very hard to pronounce, I always get asked how to pronounce it properly. In transacting over the phone, it would take minutes for the person in the other end to get it, I have to spell it all the time. I would usually say, 'its Cathy with an N and an E'. sigh. My friends call me other names: Kate, Katya, Kuring.

Now I don't mind at all. I have learned to like my name.

(just remember it's Cathy with an N and an E, okay)

How about you, do you like your name?

Great Finds...Great Reads

Small paperback from the right Php 107.00, then the bigger one from the left Php 45.00! Really pays off if you keep on browsing in the shelves. (haha)

Then another book turned into a movie. Watched the movie for a number of times, I just love love love the scenery.

I can imagine the sunflowers in Tuscany...and i remember the sunflowers inside the Changi Airport (taken last June).

Time to curl up and read. Goodnight!

Saturday

Done reading The Secret Life of Bees until early morning. Cried a bucket. Now my search for a dibidi begins. As I have said, I am bound to disappoint myself watching the movie version. Goodluck to me.

Today mabe missed the 9am ballet class because of me, because of The Secret Life of Bees (lol). Arrived at the studio at exactly 10am for her next class. Had lunch at the mall after. Took some photos of herself while I'm browsing some stuff in a store.

Happy Saturday everyone!

Holiday Reads

I am all set for the holidays, going nowhere but the four corners of my room: to curl up in bed and read.

Most of my loot from BookSale were made into movies. I have a tendency to grab this kind of books sometimes, then I'll watch the movie after and disappoint myself. (i guess books made into movies are all like that, a disappointment) though i understand the need for movie makers to shorten the storyline to fit into a 1hour and a half movie but still...it's not the same anymore :(

The greatest find of all the books above was the Lemony Snicket book (hehe). I am a fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events movie, this treasure was priced for Php70.00 only.

How about you, what's keeping you for the long weekend?

The Smell of Books

i love the smell of books. inhaling a paperback before reading is heaven. i can stay inside a bookstore for hours browsing and smelling books. i know a lot of friends who love the smell of books too.

when e-book came into the picture, i love it but i still have that addiction with the smell of books. as a matter of fact, i have loads of photography e-books in my Samsung Galaxy Tab that i did not finished reading, all because of the book smell that i was longing for.

but here comes a product that solves it all. Smell of Books in a CAN, it's an aerosol e-book enhancer. i have read the site and it is compatible with the Portable Document Format (PDF)  e-books that i have but i am not sure if i'll just have to spray it or what, why does it has to compatible to an e-book format if it's just a spray. anyway, learn more about it here.

what to do on a rainy afternoon...

1. get yourself chased by the rain. (happened to me a couple of times already) hearing  that rumbling sounds and you look around and wonder.... then finding yourself running for cover. fun!

2. eat alone.

3. buy a book. being in a bookstore is heaven for me. i can stay here for hours, seriously.

4. buy a water proof shopping tote. i discovered cheap shopping totes in cute designs for as low as Php20.00! i got the black one with tupperware print, why? because i know a lot of tupperware (plastic)  people, lol!

5. eat gelato. while waiting for the rain to stop, sit back and enjoy every spoonful of pistachio flavored gelato, watching people and cars in a rainy afternoon.

i love rainy afternoons.

how would you spend yours?
