Here comes JUNE.

It's JUNE! yeah i know, tomorrow pa but still, time runs so fast, June means school time once again. So here I am, just finished doing all the preparations for mabe like putting covers and labels on her school stuff.

Remember the time when local artistas was in the cover of school notebooks?( Hahaha) When I was in grade school I envied classmates whose notebook covers were those of Isabel Granada, Chuckie Dreyfus, etc..imagine! Most of my notebooks then were generics (the ones in green or blue lined with a strip of brown paper on the side?) I hated it! I don’t get the chance to choose my stuff...my mama does, so the cheaper the better.
Speaking of cheap, here are some energy/money saving tips for moms with a gradeschooler  like me. This is purely based from my very own experience okay.
1. Buy school supplies in bulk. Pad papers, Pencils, Ballpens, Erasers, Bond Papers,Colored Papers, etc. it’s much cheaper.

5. Aside from toothpaste and toothbrush, cologne and hairbrush, stash extra underwear in your kid’s schoolbag. AND a bottle of hand sanitizer.
6. Recycle papers. At home, your kids doodle here and there, so give her used papers instead of new ones from your stocks.

Speaking of trolley, the one in the picture was purchased 3 years ago. I’m still thinking about getting mabe a zuca bag. It is expensive, but I know it is sturdy too, so I might, I might….we’ll see.
Learn more about zuca bag here.

Kids nowadays do have a lot of freedom, especially in choosing their stuff, but as parents we are still the ones in control. So I have to thanked my mother for getting me a generic notebook..hehehe

To my friend Meowie, who’s in NY right now (or are you still in Bangkok?), I was thinking of you while taking Tom’s photo. heheh
A rainy afternoon everyone!

rain + coffee

It’s 5minutes before midnight and it’s raining hard with lightning and thunderstorms, but here’s what my yahoo weather application tells me. Lol!

Probably typhoon Chedeng is now ravaging the Bicol region. Let’s pray for the safety of our fellow filipinos in Luzon, we are always lucky not to have typhoons like that in the Visayas area.
Goodnight everyone!
Ooopps, with a weather like this, hot coffee anyone?

Phrase of the day...

Just this evening, while I’m busy blog hopping in front of my computer, my husband was engulfed in watching the state visit of US Pres. Barack Obama in England. Switching channels in between, he told me, ‘another world historic event is happening right now and there you are, reading chuvaness’ (ugh!). Chuvaness as you all know is the blogsite of cecil van straten, my idol. (hehehe)

My husband is an Obama fan. He follows everything about Obama. He liked it that the firstlady plants kamote at the whitehouse vegetable garden. He even got a copy of Obama's book.
Here it is:

Oh well, that was the phrase of the day. ‘another world historic event is happening right now and there you are, reading chuvaness’….

fooda find: shawarma rice

why only now??

i just discovered this a few weeks ago. (yeah, i'm such an obsolete fooda finder nowadays)

i am always crazy with mixed fooda. when kublai khan was still around in robinson's mall, i had it for lunch everyday, really. then another restaurant here in the city serves mongolian too, but not as good though.

this one is not the mongolian kind but still it's mixed with everything, so love it!

AND it's very affordable. Go check it out, their stalls are scattered all over the city.

Third Grade

1986 was the year I was in third grade in a public school. Looking back, I understood why my parents sent me to the nearest public school. My sister and my brother, who are way way older than I am, all came from a private school. 1986 was Edsa Revolution, just imagine what kind of economy we had then.
I don’t remember much of my elementary years, third grade…hmmm let me think…burgor, they fed us that porridge every afternoon inside the classroom...my mother cut my waist length hair short, I never thought I’ll have short hair that time, of course I was thin, lanky, malnourished looking (yeah for once in my life I was thin)…i hated math, math period was like the end of the world to me… I remember walking home from school, I have spared jeepney fare but I wanted to do what everybody else was doing during that time…walked home.
In our home and our neighborhood, I have a different world. I play with kids as soon as I stepped outside our compound. One of my childhood friends that time was Mikka, you can read her blog here.
Now comes 2011, my daughter is about to enter Third Grade. Kids her age don’t eat burgor anymore, not sure if they can even eat that food. Now my daughter’s hair was done by David’s Salon, she has a fit body because of ballet, and she hates math too. haha. We still ride a jeepney though, nothing change, we still don’t have a car. At home, my daughter hardly steps outside the gate, she got company like Phenias and Ferb, Fan Boy and Chumchum, Timmy Turner, Jimmy Neutron, and a lot more. You can all find them at Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.
Just imagine that. Third Grade. Twenty Five years after…
How’s your Third Grade year like?

I have been using this tote for a month already. Made of burlap fabric and manufactured in India, I have a thing for these kind of materials, especially that this one comes with a social and environmental advocacy. I just simply love it.

salamat manager

What does it takes to be a good manager. Here’s the story.

After mabe’s recital last Sunday we decided to have lunch at Bigby’s since mabe’s favorite bee fastfood was crowded. You know me, I don’t like too many people around.
So Bigby’s it is.
Before writing this entry, hubby warned me not to mention him in this blog (oopps, sorry).
Anyway, service was really slooow. Chez, the manager, whom I know, because I frequently arranged meetings in Bigby’s before, kept on apologizing for the slow service since they only have two waiters manning the tables. Surprisingly, I don’t see anyone complaining.
Even my daughter was keeping herself busy playing with my galaxy tab. Not complaining.

I did not complain too because I am not that hungry, so I am not upset or anything, we just patiently waited. But boy, it was really a long wait. When our orders came, again the waiter apologized (his nth time to say sorry actually). So we dig in, ate and ate then we’re done. I was eager to leave because we were there for more than two hours already, and so we requested for the bill. Then again, soooo sloowww! When the waiter arrived with the bill, he handed me a small bottle of an organic shampoo (I thought it was a hand sanitizer). It was for free, he said. Oh, really? Okay. My silence was rewarded, lol.

I waved Chez goodbye from the door, mouthed Thank You for the bottle of shampoo and wondered if other customers got a bottle of shampoo too. lol
I can only say one thing, pleasing me was good, but please, don’t make it a habit since not all people can be satisfied by a bottle of shampoo, especially hungry customers.
Good managers are few, Chez you surely is one of them. Bigby’s please add waiters na.

ballet mom

Call me a stage mother or whatever you want, because I really am one.
But I tell you, being a ballet mom is no joke. Giving your unlimited time and emptying your pocket is definitely a no laughing matter. Aside from regular school, sending your child to a ballet school after class means additional expenses. One thing I notice however, ballet kid’s feet grows fast. Why oh why, considering that ballet shoes is not that cheap at all.
Anyway, I am more than thankful that mabe’s ballet school is one of the (it’s the only one, I think) qualified and respected school of dance in the city today. The ballet instructor, Dwight Rodrigazo, is a Ballet Philippines scholar, a well experienced ballet dancer all over Asia, Europe, and the US. He is not just a dancer but a qualified instructor who will teach your little ballerina the correct positions of the feet and the hands. You don’t want your child to end up with scoliosis, do you? I have learned that wrong positions and stretching your child’s body incorrectly might give her that.
Aside from ballet lessons, my child is doing the contemporary dance this summer to enhance her body movements more. I am not sure though if she still wanted to continue doing contemporary this coming June. If she doesn’t want to, then fine with me. What is important is her decision whether to do it or not.

This coming season (June to March), mabe’s level as determined by the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet is now Primary. Hopefully next summer after another examination by ACB, she will be in Pre-Level One.
Okay, I am now boring you with this kind of entry. Can’t blame me, I am your certified ballet mom after all.
Good night everyone!

just kidding

this is what happens when they pose for you...
